On this Memorial Day weekend. We are working on the Washington Synphony and a statue “Awakening David”, We wanted to pause to salute those who gave their lives to defend those of others. Here is our tribute to those who stand tall at home and at War!

This is the first run through of a song for the synphony dedicated to the men and women who keep us free…

Its raw and pure like the men and women who sacrifice in our name everyday, God Bless you all you are our insperation.

“I Didn’t Ask” is dedicated to you…

a polished studio version will be released in the fall of 2008

Freedom…

Hope you’re having a nice Memorial Day weekend. We are working on a statue “Awakening David”, but I wanted to pause to salute those who gave their lives to defend those of others. Here is my tribute to those who stand tall at home and at War!

On notepaper from the St. Regis with a borrowed pen I began the words that defined our resilience that night. As years have past I often forget the words to Spirit of America as I wrote it that night in September on the corner of Church and Vesey Streets,  The feelings and smells will haunt me for a lifetime; the city has moved on but the scar will always remind us of the moment we lost our innocence.  That night it became clear it is not where you are born or what’s on your passport that defines a nationality alone, the true definition of nationality is what’s in your heart, what you are prepared to defend with your last measure of life. These beliefs are the definition of America the common threads that bind us together woven into the symbolisms of a flag and country…and understood by the heart.

Spirit of America

© 2001 Joseph Landry  R.H.

I stood alone in terror and watched the towers fall
I feared I lost my very way and feared I lost it all
Our heart and soul stripped bare and spread across the land
As I fell to my knees I felt a welcome hand.

From east and west you raised me high
And gave me cause to stand
And through the smoke I saw her fly bright colors, stars to dream
I know what freedom is; it’s inside of me

I am an American And proud to stand by you
I’ve felt freedom in my heart and nothing else will do
Stars and Stripes will wave forever
Forever I’ll be true
America, God Bless You

I was on the bridge at Concord when the shot was fired wild
I heard the cry of liberty reach across the land
I was ready in a minute to lend a helping hand
I know what freedom is I am an American
And proud to stand by you
I’ve felt freedom in my heart and nothing else will do
Stars and Stripes will wave forever
Forever I’ll be true
America, God Bless You

I stood alone at Gettysburg, I saw our darkest day when brothers’ blood was spilt in haste
I nearly lost my way.
Yet when the war was over. United one we stood
I knew what freedom was I am an American
And proud to stand by you
I’ve felt freedom in my heart and nothing else will do
Stars and Stripes will wave forever
Forever I’ll be true
America, God Bless You

I was there the day Pearl Harbor cried, I heard the country call
I marched so proud at Normandy, I knew Berlin would fall
and when the war was over and Okinawa calm
I know what freedom isI am an American
And proud to stand by you
I’ve felt freedom in my heart and nothing else will do
Stars and Stripes will wave forever
Forever I’ll be true
America, God Bless You

I’ll be in every breath you take, insure that freedom lives
I’ll defend the constitution and the rights of God it gives
I’ll give to you my final breath to save your liberty
I am what freedom is I am an American
And proud to stand by you
I’ve felt freedom in my heart and nothing else will do
Stars and Stripes will wave forever
Forever I’ll be true
America, God Bless You

Summer is around the corner and we are getting ready for a rebirth of our master piece “the study of David” as documented on this site and http://studyofdavid.wordpress.com/ “the Otis “ existed for only 24 hours when undetectable flawed material brought it down. In the coming months we plan on resurrecting the sculpture a 3′ a 7’ and a 15’ version are planned after the tragic end of our work it took finding a place inside of our soul where we could once again let the mute stone speak.

After many years we have been convinced by Tri-Continental Productions and the National Sculpture Endowment to create a series of Master class in sculpture DVD’s the first will teach methods of life casting and the second will teach the basics of sculpting the nude. The series will be 5 volumes complemented by the upcoming release of three documentaries on our work by Ocean Productions and St George Galleries.

Cornerstone of the nation documenting our creative journey sculpting the cornerstone of the nation will be released in June 2008;

July 2008 The Resurrected Christ is released following our tribute to the Heroes of 9-11 through the expression of our art.

And Enlighting the World is scheduled for September following our journey of creation and discovery while sculpting the Bi-Centennial portrait of Abraham Lincoln. This is shaping up to be a busy and exciting summer.

finishing touches on Elizabeth Taylor (Brian) sculpting David Letterman (Joseph)

Sometimes you realize your life has changed…

Today was on of those moments …

Brian and I had scheduled a half an hour to say thank you to a muse who had inspired us on our creative journey.

Often a chance meeting is a moment of pleasantry that distracts us from work. Tonight was wonderful three new found friends who inspired?

One an angelic spark of creative energy who will I hope inspire many masterpieces over our life time…

For the last few years my cynicism has grown and the type of questions I would pose became predictable. To night I found a heart so sweet and beautiful. I needed only to know its smile to trust its purity. Oh don’t get me wrong a spark of devilish fun lurks but no evil or pain. A wonderful vision and statue was born tonight.

Hillary Clinton Voting

Let’s take one deep breath …

Today was real and this was a moment the world changed forever…It’s no surprise we support Hillary,

I have to take a moment to say it’s been quite a day Hillary and Barack each cast ballots that changed history forever a man of color and a woman stand in line for the presidency of the United States. Today a nation won and a dream of over two centuries was realized today all Americans finally stand as equal…. All except gay lesbian and transgender!

Barack Obama Voting

We are almost there, the dream almost fulfilled….You are all aware of my Show and if your listening you know that I say what I think and admit when I’m wrong… today I received two press releases one troubled me and one thrilled me…Hillary’s Statement offers the completion of the dream that all men are created equal… the other offers troubling facts about Barracks campaign I recommend that we all keep looking at the records of the candidates in the republican field I am troubled and no one is above their record. So forget their private lives unless it affects their jobs and lets look at the records …

Here are the two documents

Hillary Clintons Statement:

As I have traveled around the country these past twelve months, what I sensed in my heart has been confirmed – America is embracing its LGBT sons and daughters with an acceptance and understanding as never before. On the campaign trail, a father of a gay son will ask about ending Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. A woman will ask why she can be discriminated against just because of who she is. Sometimes they wait furtively for the crowd to thin and then whisper their confidences in a soft voice and sometimes they stand up proudly at town meetings and want me to share my views on how I will help lead the change to assure that this country fulfills its promise to everyone.

Let me tell you what I have been telling voters across America. I am fully committed to the fair and equal treatment of LGBT Americans. For seven long years, the Bush Administration has tried to divide us – only seeing people who matter to them. It’s been a government of the few, by the few, and for the few. And no community has been more invisible to this administration than the LGBT community.

I will change that. The best evidence of what I will do as President is what I have already done.

* I am proud of my record as First Lady, as a U.S. Senator and as a candidate for President in working toward the fair and equal treatment of LGBT Americans.
* I am proud that as Chair of the Senate Democratic Steering and Outreach Committee in 2006, I worked closely with LBGT community to develop a smart strategy that defeated the Federal Marriage Amendment. I am proud of fighting the FMA as divisive wedge politics at its worst.
* I am proud to be a co-sponsor of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, the Matthew Shepard Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act, and the Domestic Partnership Benefits and Obligation Act which would grant the same benefits (including health insurance) to domestic partners of federal employees that are currently offered to employees’ legal spouses.
* I am proud to have authored the Early Treatment for HIV Act, which expands access to vital treatment options for low-income individuals living with HIV, and fought to fully fund the Ryan White CARE Act.
* I am proud that I hired a National Director of LGBT Outreach within a month of announcing my candidacy for President and to have openly gay and lesbian staffers serving at all levels of my campaign.
* I am proud to have a National LGBT Steering Committee of over 130 that includes openly LGBT elected officials, Board members and opinion leaders on issues ranging from transgender rights, to HIV/AIDS, to “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell”.
* I am proud to have marched in Gay Pride parades as both First Lady and as Senator and to have spoken in front of so many LGBT audiences ranging from the Human Rights Campaign, Empire State Pride Agenda, the Hetrick Martin Institute, PFLAG (Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays), GMHC (Gay Men’s Health Crisis), and the American Foundation for AIDS Research.
* I am proud to have fought Republican efforts to demonize and marginalize the LGBT community, and I will continue to do that as President.

We have so much work to do. When I am President, we will work together to make sure that all Americans in committed relationships have equal benefits and that nothing stands in the way of loving couples who want to adopt children in need. We’re going to expand our federal hate crimes legislation and pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and assure that they are both fully inclusive of all people. And finally, we will put an end to the failed policy of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. Courage, honor, patriotism and sacrifice – the traits that define our men and women in uniform – have nothing to do with sexual orientation.

My father was a conservative Republican, who held very traditional views for much of his life. Yet in his last years, it was a gay couple who lived next door who provided much of the compassion and comfort he and my mother needed as he grew ill. And it was that same neighbor who held his hand as he died. If my father can move, America can move.

To each and every LGBT American, I say this. You have done so much to help this country understand your lives by simply being open and honest about who you are and living your lives with dignity. Thank you for your courage. It is time that we recognize your hard work. I know that this country is ready for changes in the law that reflect the evolution in our hearts.

America deserves a President who appeals to the best in each of us, not the worst; a President who values and respects all Americans and treats all Americans equally no matter who they are or who they love. I want to be that President. I want to be your President.

Brought to my attention by Rosanne Barr:

Obama’s campaign has received $230K in contributions from Excelion Nuclear Power Company. What did they get in return for that money? In 2005 Obama voted for Dick Cheney’s secret energy bill, which was drafted by industry insiders, even Enron helped. Clinton voted against it because it was widely viewed as another huge corporate give away and it was drafted in secret. Obama voted for it. Next see New York Times about Obama’s bill which he changed from having nuclear leak reporting being mandatory to being voluntary. He made the bill weaker in favor of corporations – like Excelsion. I guess they got what they paid $230K for. Also, David Axelrod Obama’s campaign manager was a consultant for Excelsion. He is the fake agent of Change!! His actions speak louder than his words. Check it out for yourself. This should be a huge story. The man of CHANGE is really all about WASHINGTON Pay to play!! he is the number of receiver of funds from the pharmaceutical companies too…he did voteagainst the war though, before he voted to fund it again and again.

Merry Christmas

J.B. & Family

Well we are finally off everything that can be done is done, and what isn’t OH well….

Christmas will begin with stops tomorrow in Bangor, Portland and Kennebunkport Maine then Concord NH and Boston Mass a late meal in Newport RI and then a wonderful Christmas Eve’s eve in Connecticut…

The 24th will find us in New York City many of you have written and received invitations to join us in the coming days unfortunately due to the so called religious zealots we have been advised not to publish our schedule so this year there will be no surprise visits from friends at the last minute. That truly makes me sad but you are all with us in spirit.

As we travel with stops in over 20 cities and another half dozen towns the season is one of our busiest there are days that we sleep very little yet it is all worth the hardships to see our friends and watch as Christmas joy spreads across the land…

There are no scheduled Canadian stops this year but that doesn’t rule out a last minute visit to Toronto, Montreal and Quebec City for epiphany.

We will not be making a holiday visit to Europe this year we hope that Easter will find us in Paris and the continent.

Our New Years party is a go…

While our personal plans are still up in the air… I want to be alone in the crowd and finish ‘New York Live” I have only written it on New Years eve so this year I’d like to put it to bed…. I’m going to try to video blog on the road this holiday, so wish me luck!

Merry Christmas and Happy holidays…

Monday October 22nd, 2007 we spent an evening reliving the highlights of the last half-century with a man who lived it The Right Honorable Brian Mulroney former Prime Minister of Canada. It was a once in a lifetime chance to listen to the stories of events that shaped our world and future by one of the men in the room who made the decisions. When you look him in the eye and listen to him speak of his life it’s easy to see why he was given the mandate to lead twice by majority. We decided to stay and work in Nova Scotia this week so that we would have this opportunity this evening. On Thursday October 25th we have been invited to Hillary Clintons 60th Birthday party in New York City At the Beacon. Two world leaders who are true to their beliefs and heart with the integrity and strength of character to lead a generation what a privilege for the three of us to get to share these moments and witness history; sometimes as the Audience and sometimes a participant always a moment we’ll never forget.

Something inside changes when love is defined….

October 19th, 2007 ·

”The Secret” everyone is talking about the book that changes who you are…why should words define a heart…we shouldn’t think that we could buy happiness; happiness and love cannot ever be purchased or traded. It’s instinctual when did we as a species stop loving and stop dreaming? In a day and age when anything is possible we limit ourselves to the world before our eyes…have we stopped dreaming have we stopped believing in magic!

When we first adopted our son 20 years ago it was unthinkable for 2 men; then with the dream and truth of people like Rosie and Kelli O’Donnell family was redefined in front of a nation and a world …courage to change is easy when love is real, in the end love is all we have; can miracles happen of course they can… we all woke up this morning didn’t we? Treasure the seconds and minutes of the day…the world changes every day…. why dose it have to change on me? Why not embrace the changes?

Every time I think I know what tomorrow holds, destiny throws me a curve ball in the opening inning of a new ball game…what do I do play it safe or test lady luck and aim for a home run!

Love is all there is at the end of our days nothing else really matters, our accomplishments are tallied and our wealth distributed but the creations of our love live on in words and music art and family our history is our love is veracity and originality its strength and endurance…the only thing on earth that we can’t live without is love, like time it must be treasured while it lasts and we must realize it may or may not see us to the end of days yet its memory never fades… at 2 seconds to midnight I drone out the world and close my eyes and suddenly their asleep I didn’t get to say I love you!

Those 2 seconds are gone …lost forever they can never be found and returned they can never be duplicated or replaced…I can’t buy them or sell them I can’t even hold them as more than a memory …those 2 seconds are the most important 2 seconds of my life because I can only wonder what would have happened if they had existed?

Last night I faced the reality that everything that truly mattered in my life could be gone! But believing in love above all else and I woke this morning to a world filled with untold possibilities…the secret is simple Believe! And anything good and wonderful is possible …you just have to Believe, love and let it happen!

Tonight I go to bed with Brian tucked into my left shoulder and Otis Tucked into my Right the three of us fall asleep melting into one a Family built on love one created by it’s uncontrollable need to exist …it conquered fear, prejudices greed and envy of others it survived our difference and as with all life found a way to Live! Love changes everything!

What a wonderful secret………

A whole new day!

October 18th, 2007

Its hard to believe it’s only been a couple of months since I walked downstairs to where Otis was working and he looked up and said “I’m moving in “….if wonderful things happen , let tem… in the spring we sat at starbucks for a cup of coffee and little did we know our world was about to change into our life walked magic …. In the months that pasted he opened our hearts and minds to what the three of us knew from the beginning we were and are a family…That reality has given us the courage to forge ahead into a new path for our lives; tonight we begin a musical tribute to George Washington and a nation born of courage and love. Our books, plays recordings songs and sculptures are the creation of love and trust the result of a family effort that holds no bounds… you have seen we never shy from an idea and today our ideas are merging into a moment of clarity in our expansive future. We look forward to connecting with friends old and new on our travels and welcome your contributions of friendship to our life. The three of us experience nothing short of miracles in Washington DC these last few weeks…we are rebuilding our masterpiece the last great sculpture of our career and moving forward the three of us…Otis and I are composing our masterpiece for the president as Brian handles our new ventures into the world of commerce…I’m working on the biggest project of my life it will consume most of the next decade and bring to life my dreams Otis’s dreams and Brian’s dreams …it’s the crown jewel of our career so stay tuned…I was given a treasure that I can only accept as guardian from Bela Legosi to Christopher Schildt to my finger the ring of Dracula from the 1931 classic…what can I say …I’m silent …to celebrate a Halloween with this on my finger, I will post a link this month to a special version of the story I wrote with Brian and Otis last week in Salem Mass. Complete with watercolors…Looks like the equinox is hearalding great changes…it’s alright….”We expected a period of adjustments and figuring out his idiosyncrasies (I’m Prefect) but it’s been a cake walk…everything just falls into place for us, even the bad things end up making us feel better about each other…I guess it was inevitable that Otis would soon join us in sculpting as well…sharing our life is one thing, sharing our career and history is another…that, I may add, is perfect…what pride I felt last night as our world changed yet again… Brian, Otis and I began the Bi-centennial sculpture of Abraham Lincoln TOGETHER. Otis is quickly mastering the skills of a sculptor and all that’s left is to learn is the patience and time it takes just thinking about what will be born in the metal and stone…I never doubted that this love would create wonderful things for the three of us but today with a childish excitement, I realized what wondrous beauty we will give to this world with our art and combined talent…this love is so easy …once in a life time…the next time you meet someone and it feels like forever; take a leap of faith against all odds. If you end up half as happy as the three of us …you’ll be among the luckest sons of bitches that ever lived!Stay tuned to the Lincoln Bi-Centennial page to see the progress over the coming months.       http://lincoln200.wordpress.com/

Important Notice:

It’s No secret now that Otis is part of our life, so I think the only way to know us is to know him…to keep up on this once in a life time talent, check out his site at…http://otissmith.wordpress.com/You’ll see very quickly that we aren’t recommending him because we love him but because his talent is and will be legendary…. You’ll agree!

what a question!

October 18th, 2007 ·

A reported just asked me a question; When and how did you know you were in love? What a hell of a question…the definitive reason and time of the most important event of a lifetime should be easy …NOT… How do you quantify your heart…is it when I’m squeezed in the middle with one nestled into each shoulder cuddled in for our nightly movie …is it the way they take playful jabs at my short comings …is it the little kiss given anywhere, just because…is it the pride in the things we accomplish together…is it when he crawls into bed with a kiss goodnight…there is no one moment or one thing, it’s every moment and everything…it’s the one of a kind love the three of us share. What a hell of a question, it really made me think…

Happy Columbus Day

October 14th, 2006 ·

Thursday morning we had breakfast in Connecticut with Chris and Debbie Schildt and as always, we felt as though we were home.  The five of us are planning a Disneyworld adventure, which we are very excited about… The rest of the day was spent in Manhattan shopping for sculpture supplies…Otis is studying with us and this was the trip to orientate him… After a wonderful meal at the Renaissance, we were supposed to go to the Spirit Awards at Radio City Music Hall and an after-party at “Splash” for Vanessa Redgrave and Bernadette Peters… As we drove down a rain soaked Fifth Avenue we decided to skip the Awards, send our regrets to the party “we’d never be missed “ and head to the Pocono’s and the mountains to see the fall colors… A beautiful drive to our first stop in Corning NY then on to Niagara Falls for a romantic walk along the ravine at the falls and off to Toronto for diner…

dsc05532-526x395.jpg

The CN Tower has always treated us so very well and tonight was no exception.  A world-class meal and a chance to play in the tower after it closed… a midnight rendezvous at the top of the world…this family is blessed… We called acclaimed Dutch artist, who is also our ex and part of the family, Marcel Kerkhoff and spent the night as his guests. The three of us can’t express what his friendship means to us. Saturday was a wonderful day of R&R with Marcel and Saturday night found us in Kingston as Otis caught up with some old friends for Homecoming weekend…

dsc05585-438x584.jpg

Marcel Kerkhoff with us in Toronto

Sunday we had a meeting at the Chateaux Laurier in Ottawa and ran into Daniel Roukema… As we parked the car Brian had not 20 minutes earlier said he thought Daniel was still living somewhere in Ottawa, and then there he was…it was great to see him. The four of us called Les and wished his mother a Happy Birthday….

Sunday night we spent an evening of R&R touring Montreal after a great meal in old Montréal where Brian broke down and had the “Poutine”, we were off to Quebec City for a quick tour of the city and a meeting to discuss property and development in the old city. By midnight we were back on the road and heading home and after long night of driving and we arrived safe and sound at our humble abode. Another priceless adventure…new friends and stronger ties to old ones. And now we work…

Happy Thanksgiving

October 10th, 2006 ·

Happy Canadian ThanksgivingWe are having a wonderful Turkey dinner I made and suddenly Otis says we were invited to Boston by the Clintons. So off we go… last minute packing… tonight it’s off to a new life and adventure.  Late Sunday evening we discovered that we can travel quite a distance on empty with the gas light staring us down!! We pulled into Sackville, NB and there was nothing open at midnight… Then we tried Memramcook (now 30 + km on empty) to no avail. We back tracked to Aulac NB another 25 km, and basically coasted to the pumps… Don’t think Otis will pass another open gas station ever again… It would have been no sweat since we had CAA and we were having fun, so just another detour in life… Monday morning found us once again having a wonderful breakfast with Steve and Marta Robbins in Bangor. A quick visit with their talented son, writer Zack Robbins, in Brewer and the three of us spent the rest of the day traveling and relaxing in Portland, ME. Tuesday has us in Salem Mass for the day. We went to see High Priestess Laurie Cabot at her shop at Pickering Wharf, which is a must-see in Salem… A bite to eat at the historic Lyceum where the ghost of Bridgette didn’t show but the meal and atmosphere inspired us to spend the afternoon in the old burying ground… Otis sat writing under the big old Proctor tree, Brian photographed the tomb stones and flora & fauna and I rewrote the final version of my children’s book, which began here a few weeks ago… looks like the old burying ground is becoming one of our haunts in Salem…. Wednesday Otis is at the gym working out and we are working at a café on the commons on an overcast day here in Boston, but beautiful none the less… We are reading all your email. We may not get to answer everyone because there are not enough hours in the day but we do enjoy reading your notes, especially when you share your life and adventures with us. Tonight is a big night…we’ll update later… only the Clintons and the three of us are at table 40 (the Kennedy table) at the Omni Parker House today, where history has been made and we don’t know which is more exciting… a great world class lunch or being a part of history… we are so damn lucky and we know it! Otis also made history by inheriting the famous Rockwell painting of the JFK convention victory cover from Look magazine… lucky shit. Hillary Clinton invited us tonight to join the 44 club…we aren’t crazy so we said yes… guess we should freshen up before tonight which is cutting into my shopping time (Otis & Brian are thrilled about this).

The Oldest Tavern in America “The Bell in Hand”

Wednesday night in Boston….What a night…symphony hall in Boston was the place where Hilary Clinton made history…sometimes in life you’re fortunate enough to know you’ve seen history being made and tonight was one of those moments. Hillary took the stage as a candidate, gave the speech of a lifetime and laid out her plan for America’s future. As she spoke from her heart chills ran through the crowd…this was a once in a lifetime moment as we watched Hillary Clinton become the President of the United States. Just feet from the Kennedy’s and Kerry’s we sat at the door step of the 21st century watching the first woman president claim her place in history. Somehow a late dinner at the Bull and Finch (TV’s Cheers) is anticlimactic on such an extraordinary day… Otis, Brian and I have been a family with our son Bill for sometime; but tonight it’s official we are one unit together and forever. To our fans and friends: speculate no longer we are a family built on Love and we look forward to your friendship and support through out our life…For a log cabin Republican at heart, today was a shake up as I made the decision to back the candidate and not the party although I still stand for many republican policies and platforms. Overall, Hillary is the one whose ideas and integrity will best bring the nation to its future…

Where do I begin?

October 3rd, 2007 ·

The last six months have changed who I’m and I realized it on the bus…For the first time in years I took public transit today it was an experience that made me look inside and discover a nice place I didn’t see till now…Two finely coiffed women obviously business types boarded and sat in the seat ahead of me, their conversation typical of someone whose life is to busy to think about the little things but still realize they miss those mundane tasks that make us a whole person…their normal conversation soon took on a sad perspective as I listened and tried to comprehend what could create such a creatures as these …they spoke of 5 weeks vacation that they didn’t want to take after all how could they leave the office when so many others slack by taking time of for a child’s birthday… one boasted that she has missed 5 Christmas days with family because work needed her…her need to feel indispensable to people brought together only by financial gain ….how can priorities be so tainted and skewed. She believed that as others were fired after decades of work her devotion would give her some magic cloak of protection her value of life based on the whim of her new boss…when did a job become the reason for living? It is only a means to the end not the end its self… I risked all last month to keep a promise to someone who could leave my life at any moment… I did this because love and trust are unconditional and when you love someone it is all there can be, beginning and end the rest window dressing on life. They spoke of their mothers and mother-in-law’s and the indulgences they respectively spend on Christmas and holidays…they couldn’t grasp the thought that it is enjoyable to find a perfect gift for someone you care about its not the value or sacrifice that make the gift but the love and thought that make it a treasure…the idea that someone you love is thinking about you small or large the gift has the same impact, when found and given with love. They could find no pleasure in a smile; or the memory of a wonderful moment together…one spoke of punishing her husband harshly because they were out and the car got towed and placed a high price on a mistake, she has no idea why she puts up with all she dose, her children don’t respect her. Her in-laws treat her like a second class citizen and her husband has no care for all the things she dose, so that they can have a new car and swimming pool he has no idea what she puts up with? She must be blind to life…in a few moments of ease dropping I could see her greed and drive to beat the Jones meant her family took a distant second …the happiness and family she dreamt of could be hers except she choose to give it no real value…I realized how lucky I’ am. Our car was towed in New York City for over an hour we believed it and everything we had with us stolen…no fight or argument instead we pulled together after all we were all safe and we had each other we’d figure everything else out as it came…we were a family…she could have done the same but she choose the other path of division instead of unity. Our family has grown a son bill who is the light of our life and Brian and Otis and I. many things we desire in life are yet to come to us but everything we’ll ever need we have; our family is together and strong…the Jones should start looking to us for inspiration…thank you ladies, you made me realize how lucky I am…“car lost and  towed in NYC …. family found”

The Equinox brings new adventures….

September 23rd, 2007

Once in awhile life takes you by surprise and the most wonderful things happen in the spring we sat at starbucks for a cup of coffee and little did we know our world was about to change into our life walked magic …. Complete with watercolors…Looks like the equinox is hearalding great changes…

Saturday the 8th of September

Today found Brian, Otis and I in Bangor having breakfast with Stephen, Zack and Marta after an all to brief visit we were of to Newport NH to the centennial celebration of the Church of the epiphany Bishop Gene Robinson the bishop of New Hampshire was presiding. We were welcomed into the community as though we were one of the families it never fails to amaze me how warm and welcoming small town America is…. Gene is like a brother to us and it was so great to spend time with him the four of us made plans to meet in Manhattan the first of the week, we’ll be there for 9-11 and filming and he’s there with Bishop Desmond Tutu t will be great for us all to get together..The Bishop has our sculpture of the resurrected Christ and is taking it to it’s home in New Hampshire, I feel so blessed to be able to be a small part of this great state.Nightfall found us in Salem Mass. We took Otis on a midnight stroll through our Salem and I wrote a children’s book about Salem and the route we toured this foggy and mysterious evening….

A morning in mystic ct. A stroll along the seaport, Lunch at the Mystic Pizza, and filming for the video project…a perfect day, a perfect Pizza and perfect company. It’s hard to believe the day just kept getting better… the afternoon found us on the submarine Base at Groton Ct. we were got a tour of the Nautilus Nuclear submarine a wonderful place but it would take a special dedication to work on a sub of this class….Supper time was a family reunion, we took Otis to meet Chris and Debbie Shildt, Debbie prepared my favorite her lasagna and brownies that melted even Otis’s self control Brian and I had no such illusion that we would have only one or two we knew we’d go back for fourths…Chris and I discussed my new novel and I am fortunate the he’s there to help it through the birthing process. After Star Trek I thought he had peaked then Frankenstein and Dracula he surely had his masterpiece ….no such thing it only gets better his new novel is intriguing and surely a classic is being born …there son Dan called and looks like we’ll all take a long over due ski weekend at wildcat maybe the black widow run?The five of us have decided that’s its time to be kids again and spend time together…A spring date in Paris at Disney world Europe and read our respective novel drafts with bread wine and cheese along the seine dose to get any better…

We took Otis on a tour of our lower manhattan; I took a moment at ground zero …and then began life anew we arranged for a tour inside a the statue I want to thank the national parks commision for making a dream come true… we gave Otis a Very Rare piece of the copper tourch of lady liberty as we arrived at bedsoe island, it was sunny and warm until we left then the rains poured …but nothing was going to rain on our parade…Regis and joy danced the night away beside our table not coming off the floor often, we were joined by young ingénue and opera star Claire Coolen…Tavern on the green has always been so kind and warm to us it’s like a second home after dessert and coffee we took a stroll into the park where Claire and Otis gave us a private concert on the main stage of central park…as claries voice gave my words life that echoed throughout the heart of the city I was inspired to ask her to consider staring in my next musical…at Bethesda fountain we laid the plans for our triumph on Broadway it was such an amazing night it has to become a part of the play….Otis  what can I say he is my heart and soul ,he gives life to my words and they become our child as his music delivers our creation to the world….how proud I was to watch him own the stage  in central park; Manhattan his backdrop…this family we created has begun a journey that will take us to places we can scarcely dream of….new York; new York you have welcomed us and given us a home this city will always be the melody of our heart…. What a day Elizabeth Barrett and Macaulay Cort went out of there way to be nice and make us feel at home, Clair let our music echo across the metropolis…it’s hard to cuddle up and go to sleep when the world is waiting…

Otis and Billy have given us a reason to move on …no more memorials and tears today we live….The day was spent filming for the video projects…we spent some time at the view where I took what will surely be the album cover of Otis next album. Some shopping on 5th Ave and the decision not to go to ground zero to watch the lighting of the memorial lights instead we would go to the top of the empire state building….that sleepless in Seattle magic…the three of us found our head in the clouds …really…the clouds danced around below us and passed through us giving us glimpses of the earth below and the lights reaching for the heavens…. visibility low the building was passing thought the clouds …what better place to remind us that the heavens exist as the angles born this day touched us and protected our journey… it was as if the heavens new it was time to reach for the stars and sour through the clouds………

Updates:

August 28th, 2007 ·

The summer brought many changes into our life and their bounty begins this autumn.Let us first clear up the issues of September 11th although many oppose moving the services. This year’s Sept. 11 anniversary commemoration will be the final time victims’ families will be able to descend into the ground zero pit to touch bedrock at the site where their loved ones were slain Mayor Michael Bloomberg said. It is the last year they’ll be able to go down into the bathtub because the construction of the memorial will take over all this area,” “There’s not going to be a pit to walk down to. I tried to make that as clear as I could to the families,” he said. The sprawling crater, one of the lasting images of the attack, is the closest thing many victims’ relatives have to a gravesite. A number of families never received any of their loved ones’ remains, and they’ve come to consider the bedrock-hallowed ground. So the dilemmas how long dose one mourn? Having spent many hours in this pit I find comfort in life not death .As I have said my life moves forward the images of that day and the year that followed will be with me the rest of my life, yet I choose to remember the smiles and friendships the moments of happiness that vanished that day. I like the city will adapt and grow…While I will take a moment at St. Peters Church to say a prayer I will not make any public appearance or statements the words I wrote that night now belong to history “Spirit of America” is the representation of our resilience that night, it is also my hope for the future…We should never forget and we should always allow time to stop and remember not to mourn but to educate to teach the facts so that moments like this don’t continue to exist…

us-bar.jpg

It is time for the Freedom Tower to rise as a beacon to the angles born that day and a reminder to those of us that witness that year; life will rise from the ashes and hope will triumph …freedom will not be suppressed…and their deaths were not in vain…they are the Hero’s that taught us the value of that freedom. I will not remember in public, I will never forget.

************************************************************

Page 6 has said that we would be back in New York City and Washington DC in September many have flooded the office with requests for appointments. Sadly it will be easier to get Oprah Tickets. All of our time has been allotted long ago; I apologize to all who we can’t see and ask your patience. Our time in each city will be personal. For 9-11 we have chosen to remember by recording the songs written from those days. The rest of our time in the city will be spent With Otis showing him our New York… many stories are circulating our family has grown by one. Our son Bill will take over the daily affairs of Tri-Continental productions, our assistant Dyane will take over as director of 1 Time Square productions and Brian, Otis and I will oversee the development and growth of Columbus Circle productions and “I do” recordings. Otis has become a part of our family and as with our son Bill his decisions or word represents our position as a family. You will all become acquainted with him over time.  ************************************************************

On September 15th, 2007

we will be in attendance at the mass civil disobedience action, which will be led by the DC Chapter of Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW). The Pentagon and the Administration have been trying to punish and intimidate veterans and active duty service members from speaking out, organizing and telling the truth about the war. Although I personally believe the war is just and should have happened and support many of the decisions of the Bush Administration. I believe our right to free speech supersedes all others. We will stand united in the quest for truth. The primary purpose of our time in Washington is the annual meeting of the council of Washington and the Mount Vernon One Hundred. Otis has been graciously invited by the council to join us for the events at historic Mount Vernon. A year ago as Brian and I sculpted at Mount Vernon I heard first hand accounts of the causalities of the war. Bringing me full circle from my experiences at ground zero. On the piazza of George Washington’s home and in his study I wrote the words and melody of “I didn’t ask” almost a year past when Otis took the words a gave them life with his voice finding in them all I envisioned that evening alone at Mount Vernon. A tribute to the heroes of war from the war of independence till the day we no longer need to fight, no one should asked to carry a gun.

This will also mark the beginning of collaborations in music and business for our family Brian, Otis and I…at the home of the father of the nation it doesn’t get any better…This will be a working vacation and we will update regularly with our adventures…we look forward to see old friends and meeting new ones…J.B.

a moment of music… to honor silence…

September 23rd, 2007 · Comments Off

What can I write to honor the sound of silence..

Marcel Marceau, whose lithe gestures and pliant facial expressions revived the art of mime and brought poetry to silence, died. He was 84 in years 24 in spirit…It was in Barnes and Nobel at Lincoln Center that I first met Marcel, he remembered a performance I gave in what then seemed like a lifetime ago…he was kind and gracious and once we clicked, he made up for his silence on stage … he could out talk me!His heart as big as France, his soul as big as the world and the love he gave filled a universe Marcel Marceau proved silence is golden …and my treasure will be the time we spent and the soothing sound of his voice a treasure that blessed my life …. I will miss you…
